Building Information
Maneges can vary in size but typically a standard size is 40x20 metres. Choosing the best area is important as drainage for a menage is crucial to its effectiveness at dispersing water. When the site has been chosen it is then levelled and compacted. Perforated 4" drainage pipes are then layed into channels and set for the water flow into the soak away channels.
Once the drainage work is complete the geotextile membrane can be laid, covering the total area of the manege, allowing water to pass through into the pipes below.
Drainage Bed
This is the next layer to be added and is the most important. Approximately 80 cubic metres of screened crushed hardcore is laid, covering the total area. Another layer of membrane is then placed over the top, keeping the working surface completely separate from the drainage bed.
Working Surface
It is now ready for the silica sand which is laid to a depth of 100mm, around 80 cubic metres.
There are other alternatives which don't require sand beneath, for example shredded carpet insulation derived from scrap cars, 6-9" of which can be laid directly onto the membrane, but it is still advisable to lay a little sand underneath.
Shredded tyre rubber is in our opinion the best material for the final layer, dispersing water quickly away from the surface.
20 tons of this will be required for the standard size menage, giving around 50mm overall depth.
Fencing
The whole of the arena shall be fenced off using Jacksons Fine Fencing using post and rail style fencing with gravel boards for retention and incorporating a five bar gate.
Note : all Jacksons Fencing comes with a 25 year guarantee.
Planning Permission
